Direct transport refugees Plan on EU Member States by air from Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan processed by the European Commission

The European Commission is working on a plan for the direct transport by air of a limited number of refugees from Turkey to European countries, European officials said today.

Following the agreement reached over the weekend at the extraordinary EU-Turkey Summit, in which Ankara pledged to offer assistance in controlling refugee flows, the European Commission plans to present a proposal for a special purpose resettlement plan before the holding of the Summit the leaders of the 28 EU Member States (17 to 18 December) will discuss.

Under the plan, the refugees will be flown directly from Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan to the EU Member States that volunteer to participate.

"It is (SS design) a willing coalition," noted EU official, adding that the number of countries that are allegedly willing to participate and the number of refugees to be transferred have not yet been clarified.

A prerequisite for the implementation of the project is the Turkish government to fully implement its commitments to reduce the flow of refugees to Greece.
