Four Italians in ten pensioners live on less than 1,000 euros per month, according to data of the statistical institute Istat country for the year 2014
The exact percentage is 40.3% and is, overall, about 6.5 million people. And in this case, women are at a disadvantage, since 49.2% of Italian women that have retired, receives less than a thousand euros a month.
In contrast is 1.4% of Italian pensioners, which has ensured monthly earnings that exceed 5,000 euros, according to the Athens agency.
According to the Italian National Institute of Statistics, in 2014 the Italian government spent a total of 227 billion euros for pensions, the amount increased by 1.6% compared to 2013.
Pension expenditure in 2013 accounted for 16.97% of the country's GDP while in 2014 rose to 17.17%. The annual average pension of Italian citizens, according to Istat, 11.943 euros.
