USA: At least 200 jihadists killed in operation in northern Iraq

Almost 200 jihadists were killed in an operation carried out this week in the northern part of Iraq, which was made by Kurdish forces with the support of air raids launched by the international coalition, announced today a Pentagon spokesman.

A number of jihadist equivalent of a battalion, "possibly 500, probably a little less" attacked the lines of Kurdish peshmerga fighters Wednesday in the province of Nineveh under Colonel Steve Warren, who spoke during a videoconference from Baghdad.

These jihadists were able initially to "penetrate" inside the areas controlled by the Kurdish forces near Tal mainly Asouant, bass and Naouaran before them repel their opponents Thursday, said the spokesman.

Warplanes from "five countries" of the international coalition rushed to help the Kurdish forces and bombarded the area with almost "100 precision guided munitions" during the battle.
