A dead occupied a police station in Armenia

Armed group linked to a jailed opposition leader today captured a police building in Yerevan, killing a policeman and capturing several hostages, announced the national security services.

"Armed men Group entered the police building in Yerevan and hold hostages," the Armenian National Security Service announced (SNS). One of the attackers said the hostages included the deputy police chief.

"One policeman was killed and two others were wounded, and two hostages were released," added the SNS.

A Member who failed to meet the armed men, the Nicole Pasinian, told reporters that the team initially detained eight hostages but later released one who had health problems.

"The Armenian state continues to operate normally and the police continue to preserve public order and ensure security," the SNS said, denying rumors of coup circulating on social media.

According to Armenian media, the gunmen seeking the release of Tzirair Sefilian, an opposition leader who was arrested in June and charged with possession of weapons.

"We demand the release of Tzirair Sefilian declare allegiance only to him. And (President Serzh) Sarkisian should resign," he wrote on Facebook one of the attackers, the Varoutzan Avetisian.

The Avetisian also said that one of the attackers "seriously injured".

The Sefilian, leader of a small group of opposition, and six supporters were arrested in June by the authorities accused them of planning to occupy public buildings and telecommunications in Yerevan. Fierce opponent of government, Sefilian was arrested in 2006 and was imprisoned for 18 months after he had called for "overthrow the government by force." Last year was arrested again, along with many supporters, as suspected coup preparation, little but later released.

Former military president Sarkisian was elected in 2008 and the election, which the opposition challenged, provoked riots that resulted were ten men to lose their lives.
