Serbia: Hunger strike started 150 migrants seeking to open the border with Hungary
About 150 migrants, mostly Afghans and Pakistanis, today began a hunger strike in a field in Serbia, on the border with Hungary, asking to be allowed to go to the European Union.
This group of immigrants originally consisted of 300 people. Together they traveled the weekend from Belgrade to the border, where they settled in a field, about 100 meters from the fence that separates Serbia from Hungary.
"We bring food here, but nobody wants to eat it. The borders are closed, so we will sit here, you should open the border," said a 40-year old Afghan. Abdul Malek.
The Serbian Minister of Social Affairs Aleksandar Voulin, said that the authorities would prevent any incidents, while immigrants were assured that their protest will be peaceful.
