Tension in Armenia: Gunmen seized the police station hostage

An armed group took today morning a police station in Yerevan, capital of Armenia, and is holding an unknown number of hostages, announced the country's security service. Negotiations are ongoing to solve the issue peacefully, the security service announced, which accused the supporters of offenders that are spreading false rumors on the Internet that is ongoing armed uprising against the government.

Armenian news agencies reported that the gunmen seeking the release of Tzirair Sefilian, an opposition leader and former military commander arrested in June. The Sefilian has harshly criticized the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and are unhappy with the way the government handles the long conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian enclave in Azerbaijan.

Agencies reported that the gunmen asked to resign by President Sarkisian and that some police officers and some of the attackers were injured.
