Argentina: In the streets the women of the country after the rape and murder of a 16 year-old girl
Women throughout Argentina marched today to protest against sexist and sexual violence after the rape and murder of a 16-year old in a coastal city in the country last week.
The organization Not One Less organized the protests, also carried out in other countries in Latin America, where the protesters express their anger at the death of Lucia Peres in Mar del Plata.
Recent polls show that the issue of security has replaced that of inflation as the biggest concern of citizens and the case Peres caused the indignation and shock Zimbabweans, who is faced with the scourge of drugs and violence associated with them.
Prosecutor Maria Isabel Sanchez told reporters last week that offenders granted to Peres cocaine and then the girl suffered "inhuman sexual abuse" which caused cardiac arrest.
"He washed his body and dressed him in order to make it look like a case of overdoses' drugs, added the official.
Two men, known to the authorities for selling drugs outside a school, were arrested Sunday and charged with the rape and murder of the girl.
A woman is killed every 30 hours in Argentina, according to the Permanent Council on Human Rights, a non-profit organization.
The government under President Mauricio Macri announced new measures against traffickers of drugs, including the deployment of soldiers in order to reinforce areas like Rosario port and the province of Buenos Aires, where the Mar del Plata.
The organization called Not One Less women in the country to stop work or to attend their lessons for one hour from 13.00 to 14.00 local time, and many women in Argentina dressed in black under protest.
Local media reported that the Senate of Argentina will complete a meeting earlier today so that senators can take part in a demonstration scheduled for 17.00 local time (23.00 Greek time) in Buenos Aires.
