Obama welcomes the ratification of the Paris climate agreement as a "historic"
The President of the United States Barack Obama called the day of ratification of the Paris climate agreement - which was adopted by the requisite number of states yesterday - as "historic" for combating climate change.
"Today, the world meets with the situation, and if you stick to the commitments it embodies this Paris agreement, it is possible that history will judge (that day) as orosimao for our planet," he said in a casual statement to reporters Obama, Garden of roses in the White House.
To enter into force the Paris agreement, should have been adopted by 55% of all countries. At present, it has been adopted by 72 countries, responsible for 56.75% of the gas emissions that cause global warming.
The European Parliament approved the agreement this week, which allows in many countries of the European Union to ratify it, while already the agreement had secured the support of countries such as China, the US and India, which account for a large part of gases that cause the greenhouse effect.
This development opens the way for the agreement has come into effect within 30 days before the start of COP 22 (7-18 November) in Morocco.
